چکیده

Glycolaldehyde, the simplest monosaccharide sugar, has recently been detected in lowand high-mass star-forming cores. Following our previous investigation into glycolaldehyde formation, we now consider a further mechanism for the formation of glycolaldehyde that involves the dimerization of the formyl radical, HCO. Quantum mechanical investigation of the HCO dimerization process upon an ice surface is predicted to be barrierless and therefore fast. In an astrophysical context, we show that this mechanism can be very efficient in star-forming cores. It is limited by the availability of the formyl radical, but models suggest that only very small amounts of CO are required to be converted to HCO to meet the observational constraints.

On the Formation of Glycolaldehyde (hcoch2oh) and Methyl Formate (hcooch3) in Interstellar Ice Analogs

Binary mixtures of methanol (CH3OH) and carbon monoxide (CO) ices were irradiated at 10 K with energetic electrons to mimic the energy transfer processes that occur in the track of the trajectories of MeV cosmic-ray particles. The formation of glycolaldehyde (HCOCH2OH) was established through the appearance of new bands in the infrared spectrum at 1757, 1700, 1690, 1367, 1267, and 1067 cm . A s...

Infrared and reflectron time-of-flight mass spectroscopic study on the synthesis of glycolaldehyde in methanol (CH3OH) and methanol-carbon monoxide (CH3OH-CO) ices exposed to ionization radiation.

We present conclusive evidence on the formation of glycolaldehyde (HOCH2CHO) synthesized within astrophysically relevant ices of methanol (CH3OH) and methanol-carbon monoxide (CH3OH-CO) upon exposure to ionizing radiation at 5.5 K. The radiation induced chemical processes of the ices were monitored on line and in situ via infrared spectroscopy which was complimented by temperature programmed de...

Suicide inactivation of dioldehydratase by glycolaldehyde and chloroacetaldehyde: an examination of the reaction mechanism.

High-level ab initio calculations have been used to study the mechanism for the inactivation of diol dehydratase (DDH) by glycolaldehyde or 2-chloroacetaldehyde. As in the case of the catalytic substrates of DDH, e.g., ethane-1,2-diol, the 5'-deoxyadenosyl radical (Ado*) is able to abstract a hydrogen atom from both substrate analogues in the initial step on the reaction pathway, as evidenced b...

Mechanistical Studies on the Irradiation of Methanol in Extraterrestrial Ices

Pure ices of amorphous methanol, CH3OH(X 1A0), were irradiated at 11 K by 5 keVelectrons at 100 nA for 1 hr. These energetic electrons simulate electronic energy transfer processes that occur as interstellar ices, comets, and icy solar system bodies are subjected to irradiation fromMeV ions and secondary electrons produced in this process. The results were analyzed quantitatively via absorption...

Formation of a protein-bound pyrazinium free radical cation during glycation of histone H1.

Glycation, the nonenzymatic reaction between protein amino groups and reducing sugars, induces protein damage that has been linked to several pathological conditions, especially diabetes, and general aging. Here we describe the direct identification of a protein-bound free radical formed during early glycation of histone H1 in vitro. Earlier EPR analysis of thermal browning reactions between fr...
